The difficulty of having the transfer deadline after the start of the competitive season has been highlighted by the last fourteen days.
Dougie Freedman has prepared his side for three Championship fixtures and a Capital One Cup tie against Walsall, overseen training in between and also had to deal with constant questions about the futures of Michail Antonio and Henri Lansbury while frantically pursuing transfer targets of his own.
As it stands, Antonio looks set to depart before the end of the month having been left out of the side to face Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night.
Forest have rejected a bid from Derby County for the player but may be hoping that revives interest from the Premier League over the next few days.
A statement on the club website on Wednesday night, meanwhile, states that Lansbury has decided to stay at the City Ground after talks with owner and chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi.
Whether that will dampen down talk of Joey Barton coming to Nottingham remains to be seen with the former Queens Park Rangers man having been linked with a move over the past few days.
Update: A signing has been confirmed on Thursday afternoon, Dutch midfielder Kyle Ebecillio, formerly of Arsenal, joining on a season-long loan from FC Twente.
