The Football League's latest figures show that Nottingham Forest spent £739,450 on agents fees during the 2009/10 season. The figure was the fourth highest behind Middlesbrough (£1,464,200), Newcastle (£1,073,076) and West Brom (£950,135).
Spending on agents fees by Football League clubs rose to £12.7million over the past 12 months, compared to the 2008/09 figure of £8.8million.
"Given the current economic climate, it is worrying to see such a significant amount leaking from the game," said Football League chairman Greg Clarke in response to the report. "This year`s figures demonstrate a considerable increase on those of last season and it is essential that clubs work to reduce this liability over the coming campaign."
