The striker, on loan from Middlesbrough, scored his first goal for the club in the 3-2 defeat to Swansea, but Forest have failed to win in their last seven games.
Billy Davies' side occupy the final play-off spot but have fallen seven points behind second-place Norwich.
But a defiant Boyd told the club's official website: "There's still a long, long way to go.
"We've had a tough period but you look at Blackpool last year and other teams - it's usually the side that's down there and struggling come the last seven or eight games that comes through and goes up.
"We're not out of it, we've made it difficult for ourselves but we've still got a chance."
