A home draw against Derby County at the weekend saw Bristol City drop into the relegation zone as a resurgent Coventry City won at Hull and ever-improving Forest trounced Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
The Robins face both the Reds and the Sky Blues over the Easter period and boss McInnes told the Bristol Evening Post: "We need to recognise that we have to get wins on board.
"We have six 90 minutes left to make sure we get enough wins.
"Next weekend is going to be a big weekend.
"We always knew it would be pivotal. We have to make sure we play to our capabilities."
