The Aston Villa striker would be joining a shell-shocked Reds squad, humbled 5-0 by Burnley on Saturday and again blasted by boss Billy Davies in his post-match press conference.

Davies, who labelled his side 'soft' after defeat by Watford in the week, went a step further after the Turf Moor humiliation.

"We have to say that we owe the travelling fans a big apology because that was a disgraceful performance," he said.

"We are sick of talking about attitude, we are sick of talking about how well we start games, we are sick of talking about individual errors."
