Having impressed in a loan spell at Notts County during the first half of the season, the 20-year-old is now back at the City Ground, with the Magpies unable at present to do a deal to keep the player.
"Brendan is definitely a player we would like but I don't know what Forest want to do with him," said County executive chairman Peter Trembling earlier in the week.
"I am not currently in a position to talk to (Forest chief executive) Mark Arthur because I haven't got any money to put on the table for him, whether that be for an extension of the loan or transfer."
Now, the Sunday People reports that Barnsley and Scunthorpe are admirers of the player who has made 15 senior appearances for Forest.
