With the FA Cup 5th Round taking centre stage, Nottingham Forest are without a game this weekend as they prepare for Tuesday night’s trip to face promotion-chasing Burnley.
And the Clarets could be in the promotion places by then as they host struggling Rotherham at Turf Moor on Saturday with Middlesbrough and Hull City among the sides not in action.
Currently 10th in the division, Forest could potentially be overtaken in the table by Preston, Wolves, Brentford and Queens Park Rangers (although the R’s would require a big victory at Bolton Wanderers).
If Brentford did defeat Derby County at Griffin Park, however, the gap between the Reds and the last play-off place, currently held by the Rams, would remain at nine points.
With no action on the pitch, Forest have tied up two contract extensions this week, Chris Cohen adding a year to his current deal and Oliver Burke penning a new four-and-a-half year contract with the club.
