The talented midfielder was one of the few bright spots of a dark season at the City Ground and his displays in the second part of the campaign have led to reported interest from Premiership scouts.
As one of the few saleable assets at the club, Commons could yet be sacrificed if a big bid came in but the player himself insists he is happy to stay.
"I am more than happy to stay. This season has been very frustrating but, once I managed to get into the side, I gave it 100% every time.
"It is nice to be recognised for one game, like after the Spurs cup match, but what I want is to be part of a promotion-winning side at Forest. That would be fantastic," he told the Evening Post.
"I'm still really disappointed about it all (last season) but we have to regroup and make sure we only stay in League One for a season.
"I would love to get 40 games under my belt and have a tally of goals in double figures, but promotion has got to be everybody's aim. I want to stay injury-free and get a good run in the side."
