Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies has thrown down the gauntlet to Gareth McCleary after the winger`s two-goal salvo in Saturday`s friendly defeat to Swindon. The winger netted twice in the first half before the Robins ran out 3-2 winners.
Davies believes the former Bromley player can earn a place in his line-up but wants him to iron out the inconsistencies that were in evidence after half-time at the County Ground.
"In the first half he did very well, but not the second. In the first half he was good, in the second he got caught in possession too much," Davies told the Nottingham Post.
"He is what he is. He is a player who can cause the opposition real problems, but he is also somebody who can make the wrong decisions. He has to understand that the door is now wide open for him and one or two others. He has to stake his claim for a consistent place."
