Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies has commended David McGoldrick for his application over the summer and has backed the striker to recover from his injury setback.
McGoldrick will be sidelined for three months after damaging shoulder ligaments during training last week.
This came after the former Notts Country trainee had put himself through a rigorous personal fitness regime during the close season, dropping more than a stone in weight.
"It is very unfortunate for the lad because he had obviously been working very hard over the summer to get in perfect shape," Davies told the Nottingham Post.
"He is more than a stone lighter than he was at the end of last season. He had really been working on his fitness. It seemed as though he was really hungry and ready to go so for him to pick up this injury is a real blow.
"He will be sidelined for at least three months, which will set him back obviously. It was just one of those freak accidents. He just had a fall and damaged shoulder ligaments."
