A national television audience saw an entertaining Championship clash between the division's two form teams and few would have begrudged Forest their point, gleaned from a late Lewis McGugan goal.
Feeling that his side did not get the rub of the refereeing green, manager Billy Davies told the official club website afterwards: "It was a fantastic point for us."
Much of the pre-match talk had been about Cardiff's goalscoring prowess and their chance to go top of the table but it was the Reds who had the better of the first half, albeit with Lee Camp being called upon to make some excellent saves.
Davies admitted: "We didn't start the second half as brightly."
