Nottingham Forest attempted to shrug off recent disappointments when they travelled to face the Championship's bottom club Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday.
Both sides went into the game on the back of heavy defeats, the Reds at home to Wigan and the Tykes away at Huddersfield last Saturday while Forest manager Billy Davies had also been given a five-match touchline ban in midweek.
The Scot took his place in the stands having named a side with two changes as Kevin Gomis replaced Eric Lichaj and Djamel Abdoun started in place of Jonathan Greening but Forest were beaten by bottom of the table Barnsley at Oakwell when Dale Jennings fired home from outside the box on 51 minutes.
The Reds remain in the play-off places in fifth position but Barnsley climbed off the bottom with this win.
It was only Forest's fourth away loss in the Championship but they have now gone five games without a win in all competitions.
