The 31-year-old is set to return to British football after an absence of nine years after agreeing a two-year deal with Rangers.

Bassett told the Daily Record: "Darcheville is as physically strong as players get and he can score goals.

"He was a flying machine as a kid and still has loads of pace so that will stand him in good stead in Scotland.

"Walter Smith will have done his homework and is confident enough in his ability to bring him to the club so he should do well.

"When I had him he wasn't too clever on the ball but made up for it with his other assets but he's had a long time to improve all aspects of his game.

"It's a big move and he has the chance to play in the Champions League which he'll love.

"As long as he doesn't take his eye off the ball he should be a good addition for Rangers and the fact he's a Bosman signing takes away much of the risk."
