Findley, who was out of contract at MLS side Real Salt Lake, has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract at the City Ground, subject to attaining a work permit.
The 25-year-old played in his country`s impressive World Cup campaign last summer and had attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs.
Manager Billy Davies was delighted with the capture, saying: "We had a lot of competition in the race to sign Robbie and there's no doubt that we had to work very, very hard to try and convince him this was the right place to come.
"We've managed to do that and we're very, very pleased. It's a great challenge for him and a great challenge for us as well but there's no doubt that he can score goals and, more importantly, with the pace he's got he can be a real handful.
"He's got electric pace and the ability to cause problems," Davies added on the club`s official website.
