A late Ian Breckin goal stretched the Reds' unbeaten run to four games but Megson felt that his side laboured against a strong Blackpool defence after the visitors had taken a first-half lead.
"We are going to face a lot of teams like this in League One. We already have done," said Megson. "And we are going to need our more talented players to get on the ball and do a little bit better than they did last night.
"Kris (Commons) has had one of his quieter games. I know he hit the post in the first half and put the ball in from the corner that we scored from. But we need him to give us that kind of delivery on a more regular basis.
"Our passing generally was laboured, too easy to read. We needed more invention."
