After seeing his side cling onto their Championship status for another week at least, Megson, who had urged his side to give the fans something to cheer, said: "The support we had was absolutely unbelievable and that has to be cherished rather than taken for granted.
"It's been like that since I've been here and it's something we have to use.
"We talked about not starting on a level field. We had to build bridges very quickly and I think the attitude was spot on.
"You have to prove things to people and everybody showed those qualities."
