The Reds are now four points off the play-off places with five games remaining but showed good spirit when the game looked lost.
The quest to end their long, winless run now takes Gary Brazil's side to Queens Park Rangers for an early kick-off on Saturday and perhaps the final chance to stake a claim for a top six finish.
