Now recovered from a shoulder injury, the 22-year-old has been backed by Billy Davies to have a big impact at the City Ground this season.
Speaking after the second team draw with Rotherham, McGoldrick told the club's official website: "It was encouraging to hear his comments. It gives you a lift when you have a manager who believes in you like that.
"My aim now is to score 15 goals this season, to repay the faith he has in me. I want to respond to the backing he has shown.
"I do feel like I have a point to prove to Forest fans, but I believe I can score goals. You have to have belief in yourself, you have to back yourself."
