The former Nottingham Forest forward has taken his first steps into management at last season's League Two play-off semi-finalists after a spell on the coaching staff at West Ham United.
His side host the Reds in a pre-season friendly at the Lamex Stadium (7:30pm) after a weekend victory at Wealdstone in which Sheringham used a total of 23 players.
A £2m signing by Forest from Millwall in July 1991, Sheringham spent just over a season at the City Ground before his switch to Tottenham Hotspur.
Dougie Freedman's side finished off their pre-season trip to Sweden with a game against Helsingor on Tuesday evening before returning for friendly matches with Stevenage, Doncaster Rovers, Swansea City and Aston Villa and the manager is looking now to bed in a more settled side after some experimentation in the Swedish friendlies.
Speaking to the Nottingham Post he praised youngsters Tyler Walker and Roger Riera for how they fitted in with the senior squad and also confirmed that he sees Jamie Paterson as part of his plans for the new season.
