Dougie Freedman, himself a former Nottingham Forest player, has been handed the job in a move that will, if nothing else, stop endless speculation about the new manager in its tracks.
Freedman's progress in his first managerial role, at Crystal Palace saw him headhunted by Bolton Wanderers in October 2012 where his first season in charge saw the Whites move steadily up the Championship table.
He left Bolton earlier this season after just under two years in charge.
