John missed out on Saturday's win over Brighton after arriving back from international duty with Trinidad & Tobago last week but could be used by boss Micky Adams who has a number of attacking options at his disposal.
The striker scored 20 goals in 56 starts for Forest before his move to Birmingham in February 2002 and was linked with a move back to the City Ground earlier this season before joining Coventry.
Coventry's form has improved sharply in recent games after new boss Adams made a number of new signings including Robert Page, Trevor Benjamin and Shaun Goater.
Adams has changed the Sky Blues style slightly by bringing in more physical players, able to cope with the demands of the Championship and Forest boss Gary Megson has warned his side that they face a very tough battle tonight.
