The former Plymouth man has been hampered by injury problems since making the switch from Home Park as the man Gary Megson believed would provide goals from midfield.
A calf strain sustained against Crewe last month has kept Friio out since and Forest have badly missed his presence, especially in the defeats against Coventry and his former club.
"To be out of it is horrible and I feel ashamed because I cannot take part," said the Frenchman.
"I played 190 games in four years at Plymouth and that means about 45 games a year. I can't really remember being out for more than a week.
"I can only talk to the lads and keep my fingers crossed. I have watched from the stands and on away games I listen to the radio and go on the internet.
"It is too early to say at this stage whether I will be fit for Saturday and it is very frustrating."
