The former Walsall man is hoping that a series of good displays at centre-half in the reserves will provide his route back to the first-team.
"I came to the club as a left back and now we don't play with one," he told the Evening Post.
"So I am in the wilderness a little bit.
"It is a positive thing to know that it is nothing that I have done wrong.
"I was playing at left wing back and I did not feel I was playing too badly.
"But then the manager left me out, explaining that it was a change of formation.
"I do see the central defensive role as a potential way back into the team, definitely.
"Before I came to Forest I played as a central defender at Walsall.
"I haven't played there for quite a while and also playing with a three is another learning curve for me.
"But I am in there to learn the role and see what happens, I want to get back into the habit of playing again."
