The Reds' position in the Championship, together with Billy Davies' constant calls for more depth to be added to his squad, equals a rumour rollercoaster between now and the end of January.
"We've got a great squad but we've got to look ahead and be prepared for the final 10 games or so," the Reds boss told BBC Radio Nottingham.
In addition to on-loan defender Nicky Shorey, the first names to be mentioned in despatches are Andrea Orlandi and Charlie Austin.
Versatile midfielder Orlandi has made a big impression since moving to Swansea City from his native Spain.
Striker Austin has shot to prominence this season, his tally of seven goals since a switch from non-league football earlier in the campaign, helping Swindon Town into a play-off position in League One.
