Billy Davies' men have not won in their last seven npower Championship matches in a major blow to their hopes of claiming a top-two finish.
Yet Gunter believes Forest should not be written off as they bid to reignite their campaign with a trip to Leeds after the international break.
The Welshman said: "If we can win four or five in a row, we have every chance of sneaking up there and getting what we want.
"We have proved that, if there is a team in the top eight or nine who can go on that kind of run, it is us.
"We can rattle off win, win, win and shoot up the league. Hopefully that is what we will do."
