Hat-trick Hero Junior Gets CC Smiling

Things had been looking bleak for Forest a couple of weeks ago, but after a hard fought win at Port Vale and a strong performance in the defeat against Leicester, it seems the fans finally have reason to be positive.

It was clear on Tuesday night that Colin Calderwood's men were desperate to beat Leicester City, and with the help of a 'free goal' and some good attacking football they came very close.

Nathan Tyson opened his account for the season with a well taken goal, only for Forest to see victory and a third round tie with Aston Villa snatched from them in the dying minutes.

While the manner of the defeat was disappointing, the performance was impressive and Forest looked every bit as good as their Championship opponents. Tyson looked sharp and threatening up front, a reassuring sign that he may be over his injury nightmare.

On to managerless Gillingham on Saturday and the perfect opportunity to record back-to-back wins, and Calderwood's intentions were clear when the Reds lined up with three strikers.

Forest had to be patient in the first half, as Gillingham packed nine men behind the ball and proved tough to break down. And although the home side enjoyed the majority of the possession, they were only able to create a couple of clear cut chances.

Nathan Tyson thought he'd scored with a shot from the edge of the box, only for it to cannon back off the post. And as well as neat passing football, the Forest faithful were treated to some 'silky' skills from Wes Morgan when he bulldozed his way through several Gillingham players. The big defender somehow managed to keep the ball and complete a pass, and his brave but clumsy footwork had the crowd roaring with approval.

Forest deservedly took the lead just before half-time when Grant Holt's shot from the left met the head of Junior Agogo, who nodded home at the near post.

Gillingham started the second half positively and looked as though they might claw their way back into the match. However, it didn't last long and Forest were soon enjoying near-total domination.

The Gillingham goal took a battering as Forest looked to extend their lead, and it was pure luck and good goalkeeping that was keeping the visitors in the game.

The Trent End crowd were on the edge of their seats yet again when Nathan Tyson crashed a shot against the post for the second time, and Junior Agogo barely had time to react when the ball struck his foot and spun over the bar from three yards out.

It wasn't long before Agogo made up for it though, by scoring his and Forest's second of the game, heading in Sammy Clingan's cross from close range. And soon after he completed his first hat-trick in a Forest shirt by slotting in a pass from Nathan Tyson, much to the delight of the crowd.

The game was virtually sealed by this point, but there was just enough time for Agogo's replacement, the young Emile Sinclair to get his name on the scoresheet with his first senior goal.

So a 4-0 home victory for Forest, and although the opposition were poor it was a sure sign that Colin Calderwood's side can play attractive and attacking football. With injured players returning and the Reds almost able to play their strongest line-up, they're starting to look like a good side, and better than last season.

It's been a tough start to the season for Calderwood and his men, and while we shouldn't get carried away, things are certainly looking a lot more positive for Forest.
