Striker Chris O'Grady signed a season-long loan deal, leaving Brighton & Hove Albion to link up with Dougie Freedman's squad, shorn of star man Michail Antonio after his £7m move to West Ham United and Jamie Paterson after he joined Huddersfield Town on loan.
And that appeared to be that but owner and chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi took to Twitter to confirm that three other players had agreed to join the Reds and that the appropriate paperwork was submitted before the relevant deadline.
Around 5pm on Wednesday, Mr Al Hasawi reiterated the situation and stated that the new arrivals would be announced on the official club website when the registrations were completed.
Freedman will then begin the task of moulding the squad he has at his disposal into a side capable of remaining in the Championship in the face of some fairly big money being spent elsewhere in the division.
Five points from five games to date is probably in line with expectations that have been lowered by the summer's lack of transfer activity but all of those matches have been against teams not expected to challenge for promotion although Brighton have continued their winning form from the opening weekend.
O'Grady's arrival from the South Coast does offer another option in attack but until Britt Assombalonga returns from injury there is little in the way of a regular goalscorers to take the burden off Forest's midfield and defence.
