Kinnear, who watched his players train for the first time this morning, said there was a good atmosphere around the City Ground despite not winning in 14 games.
He said: "My only priority at the moment is to avoid relegation,"
"This is a big club, a proper football club with a history and they should be playing Premiership football. I know that's a cliche these days and people say it about a lot of clubs, but in this case it's true."
He will be looking to pull in a few favours this week and sign two players before Saturday's home clash with Walsall which is kids for a quid.
He will be allowed to bring in four players in total to help Forest battle bravely against the drop.
