Matt Derbyshire struck a superb winner for Forest at the City Ground just moments after Ross McCormack looked to have sealed a point for Leeds.
That made it six points from six for Forest from two very tricky looking home games over Christmas and Leeds manager Brian McDermott said afterwards that he envied the 'spending power' that his opposite number Billy Davies has.
"They have spent a lot of money over the years. Good luck to them."
Davies, however, remains keen to add to his squad in January despite a timely reminder from Derbyshire and another goal for makeshift striker Greg Halford.
"From experience, I have had a good chat with the chairman, to tell him that the January window is very important," he said after achieving his 'first objective' of having the Reds in the play-off places at the end of the year.
