Nathan Tyson's goal continued the Reds' unbeaten run under McParland and fellow caretaker boss Frank Barlow as they drew 1-1 with Gillingham at the City Ground.
McParland told the club website afterwards: "We were slow out of the blocks but once we got into our stride we created a string of chances.
"We probably created as many chances as we did against Swindon a fortnight ago but on that occasion everything went right and we scored seven.
"We'll take the positives out of this game. We've extended our unbeaten run to four matches and that's massively important."
