Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins has confirmed that on-loan defender Brendan Moloney has returned to Nottingham Forest for treatment on an injury.
The defender, who is on loan at Glanford Park for the rest of the campaign, suffered a medial ligament injury in Tuesday's defeat at West Brom.
The 21-year-old will now travel back to the midlands where he will undergo a scan on Friday to determine the full extent of the injury.
"He has opened up his medial ligament," Adkins told the club's official website.
"It is a serious injury that we are looking at.
"The early reports are that he could be potentially out for the rest of the season. We'll assess it from Friday once he's had the scan.
"He will be back in the care of Nottingham Forest for the foreseeable future. I feel for him because I think he's got a great future in front of him."
