On the eve of the new Championship season it will come as a blow to Nottingham Forest fans to lose two such talented young players, softened only slightly by the expectation that both will still be playing for the Reds in 2014/15 with a loan move back to the City Ground thought to be part of the deal.
Update - Although the deal has not been officially announced as of Monday evening, Stuart Pearce has been speaking about his disappointment that Newcastle's offer for the duo has been accepted.
"I do not agree with it," he has been quoted as saying.
"But the only olive branch I have got is that the boys are both coming back on a year loan, which is a bonus.
"But I felt that, if they stayed at the club, they would only have increased in value."
