After a dramatic three days in the history of Nottingham Forest FC, the Reds returned to action on Tuesday night with a Championship fixture at home to Charlton Athletic.
Academy coach Gary Brazil took his place in the home dugout after the sacking of Billy Davies on Monday with Neil Warnock claiming he had turned down the chance to take the manager's job and Gianfranco Zola installed as the bookmakers' favourite.
A nervy game of few chances followed and it was Charlton who made their opportunity count when Jordan Cousins scored the only goal of the game with just under ten minutes remaining.
The Reds could not find a way back and will be left to rue a missed opportunity as a surprise defeat for Reading at home to Barnsley meant they could have moved back into the top six with a victory.
