The headlines made at the start of the week by the proposed sale of Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow to Newcastle and criticism of the deal from Stuart Pearce have given way on Wednesday to a double signing by the Reds.
Sheffield Wednesday winger Michail Antonio has signed a three-year contract with the club while a big-money move to sign Peterborough United hotshot Britt Assombalonga has also been sealed.
Final confirmation of Lascelles and Darlow leaving has yet to be released but Wednesday's swoop may have poured water on the fire ahead of the new season starting on Saturday against Blackpool.
Update - More movement on Thursday with Simon Cox agreeing a two-year contract to return to first club Reading.
