Gerry McDonagh gave Nottingham Forest the lead in their Third Round game against Brighton & Hove Albion before Archie Davis levelled things up for the visitors.
Extra-time could not separate the two teams so it went to a penalty shoot-out.
Brighton missed with their first two attempts while Forest scored one and saw McDonagh's kick saved. Both sides then tucked away their third and fourth penalties, Elvis Otim and Jordan Gabriel doing the business for the Reds.
Albion netted their fifth spot-kick which meant Tom Gamblen could win it for the home side and he kept his nerve to send Nottingham Forest into the Fourth Round.
