Still in joint-caretaker charge at Fratton Park following Steve Cotterill's decision to leave for the City Ground, Whittingham was full of praise for his former boss after the game.
Portsmouth fans enjoyed taunting Cotterill over the scoreline but Whittingham admitted: ‘In the end, it was a great win.
‘Was it a 3-0 game? I’m not so sure it was really.
‘I think the turning point was Stephen Henderson’s save (from Robbie Findley). I thought it was a fantastic save and it would have been so much harder for us if it had been 1-1 at that point.
‘But we’re delighted with the three points. Everyone worked really hard for the win and it was a great atmosphere.’
