The Scot noticed signs of tiredness in his players during the 1-0 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday - a result that saw the Reds set a new club record of nine successive home league victories.
"I thought Middlesbrough were half a yard sharper than us. We were late for tackles and gave the ball away because we were tired," said Davies.
"That concerned me. I had given the players two days off and I was hoping that would have given them some strength and fitness in the second half - thankfully that is what happened.
"I am pleased with the way we responded. They will have a few days off again this week because the players have been first class."
