Leeds chairman Prof John McKenzie is an admirer of Hart from his playing days at Elland Road and the Forest boss still holds the club in high regard.
The only stumbling block will be the payoff Reid would recieve, believed to be around £1m, and the compensation package the Reds would get with Hart having two-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal.
Leeds are around £78m in debt meaning the sacking and appointment would hit their finances hard. The imminent departure of Mark Viduka in the January transfer window could give them enough money to thrash out a deal with both parties.
Yesterday, Leeds slumped to a 6-1 defeat at Portsmouth and Forest managed a 1-1 draw with Watford at The City Ground.
