The City Ground boss would have been further boosted by seeing winger Paul Anderson and midfielders Lewis McGugan and Arron Davies step up their comebacks from injury problems with a goal apiece against Walsall.

Summer signing Anderson in particular looked impressive and could be in line for a first-team debut in some form or other at QPR this weekend.
