Now the Reds will attempt to continue their upward progress when they return to the City Ground at the weekend.
Breckin told BBC Radio Nottingham: "Eventually we're getting a foothold in the league.
"It took us a long time but we're looking as though we're coming to terms with this league."
Birmingham City are the visitors at the weekend and although they lie second in the table, all is not well at St Andrew's.
Alex McLeish has a wealth of striking talent in his squad but has yet to find his best side and saw Blues slump to a 1-0 home defeat against Coventry on Monday night.
"I'm disappointed with our final ball," he said after the game.
"We were lacking some inspiration."
