A pulsating East Midlands derby at the City Ground saw former Derby strikers Marcus Tudgay and Robert Earnshaw help themselves to two goals apiece as Nigel Clough's side failed to cope with the attacking intent of Billy Davies' men.
The Rams were the only team left who could have denied Forest a whole calendar year of unbeaten league football on their home ground but the only bright spot for the visitors came when Luke Moore equalised Luke Chambers' early goal.
"I think the most important thing is the outstanding achievement of 30 games undefeated," said Davies afterwards.
"It is absolutely remarkable and great credit has to be given to everyone at this club.
"I think it's a very good three points, we should have scored more goals. It was an excellent team performance and a thoroughly deserved three points."
