The blame game starts in earnest

Joe Kinnear seems to be the main target for criticism with Gary Megson once again slamming the fitness of the players he inherited.

"This is hard to bear and it wouldn't have happened if I was manager from day one," Megson said after the QPR game.

"The conditioning of the players is woeful. It stops you doing anything you want to achieve.

"QPR looked bigger than us, more athletic than us and were capable of a lot more. That's just one of the issues that we have not been good enough at."

Youngster Ross Gardner has also slammed the club's pre-season as being an 'absolute shambles' while David Platt, the Forest board and Andy Reid have all come in for their share of the blame for the decline in fortunes over the last few years.

Megson deserves the chance to put his money where his mouth and get the team that he wants and the pre-season that he wants but he must take at least a small share of the blame for the abysmal performances against Coventry and Plymouth that sealed Forest's fate.

These came months into his time at the club, not days and regardless of the fitness and quality of the players he inherited, both performances were marked by a distinct lack of passion on the pitch.
