"Other teams are showing their ambition, we need to start showing ours."
It could be a quote from any transfer window of the past few seasons. It doesn't come from Billy Davies however but from new Nottingham Forest manager Steve McClaren as he contemplates staying behind for a few days from the club's pre-season training camp in order to push through some new signings.
Davies was consistently involved in bouts of verbal sparring with the Forest board and, despite the trumpeting of McClaren's appointment as a major coup for the club it seems as though little has changed in terms of transfer policy since his arrival.
"There is no point in me coming here and being here unless (we sign) the types of player that will give us a chance of promotion.
"I didn't come here not to compete," warned the former England manager, Unlike Davies his words will not so easily be able to be put down simply to a clash of personalities.
