The 27-year-old has scored four goals in five appearances for Forest since signing from Sheffield Wednesday where, in stark contrast, he only managed to find the net twice in 15 starts and two substitute appearances.
Davies told the Evening Post: "I have had a quiet word in his ear. I just told him that we have given him the opportunity of a lifetime. We have let him know exactly where he is and what lies ahead.
"It is the word in the ear that he has to listen to.
"We have marked his card on one or two things I felt he could and should be doing. He has done that and it is paying off.
"It is just a matter of a manager giving a player a little bit of advice."
