The gap in Championship action at this stage of the 2011/12 campaign came on the back of a 4-1 home hammering for the Reds by promotion favourites West Ham United.
As Steve McClaren struggled to make an impact in the dugout he was also saw the August transfer window close without any further signings to add to his squad having made it clear throughout his short time in charge that he felt more new faces were needed.
Of course McClaren's departure would not be long in coming while Nigel Doughty's decision to step down as chairman and the ongoing search for a new manager all added to the feel of a club treading water.
Now the Reds have those new owners but the positive feeling around the City Ground has come not through a huge splurge in the transfer market but from the appointment of a well-respected manager who has built his squad up slowly, starting from the back.
There's a long way to go in the 2012/13 season but Forest have come a long way in a short time and the return of the league campaign after the international break is something that fans can look forward to this time around.
