Six years in charge of the England Under-21 side may come to an end after the current European Championship with England beginning their campaign against Italy on Wednesday.
"If I strip it down, the burning ambition inside me is to win it," said Pearce, who has made it clear he is keen to stay in the job.
"I'm looking forward to sitting down with the FA in two weeks' time."
The tournament begins against the backdrop of research that says English under-21 players took the field for just 2.28% of the total minutes played in the Premier League last season.
