The Scot praised a 'captain's performance' from the midfielder after Saturday's 2-1 victory against Rotherham United and told BBC Radio Nottingham afterwards that he wants an unnamed player from Burnley as part of any deal for Lansbury.
"If I decide to let Henri go I have to find replacements, my squad is very thin," he said.
"There is one player that I think will help us with it. It doesn't necessarily need to be in the same position."
The Clarets have just a short window to do the deal before a full midweek card in the Championship when Charlton Athletic are the visitors to the City Ground and, having ground out a victory over Rotherham, Forest will look to do the same again against another club who could face a season of struggle.
That said, Charlton have taken four points from their opening two games and came close to victory at big-spending Derby County on Saturday despite having just 32% of the possession.
Manager Guy Luzon praised his squad's 'big hearts' despite the small budget at his disposal and a scrap for a positive result may be on the cards on Tuesday night.
