Nottingham Forest produced an emphatic display to secure a 2-0 victory at Blackpool in a clash between two sides whom the pundits feel will be battling for promotion this season.
Colin Calderwood's side survived some early jittery moments to settle down and completely control the game at Bloomfield Road.
Forest's victory also ruined the party for new Blackpool backer - Latvian millionaire Valery Belekon - who had flown over 60 of his personal friends to watch his side's first game under his backing.
In the 11th minute the Latvians were punching the air when Keigan Parker produced a magnificent goal bound header only to see it clawed away from under the bar by Paul Smith. This was to be the end of any real action for the Forest goalkeeper as his defence asserted themselves and the midfield closed down the early danger produced by Keith Southern and David Fox.
Blackpool huffed and puffed but never seemed to have the skills to open up the Forest defence with a simple pass or flick.
Forest, meanwhile, were content to wait for the break and they did so in style in the 44th minute. Nicky Southall produced an elusive run down the right and crossed low into the box where Jack Lester rolled away from the defenders to score with a low 18-yard drive.
Lester should have made it two in the 49th minute after Marc Joseph brought down the livewire Forest attacker. Lester took the penalty himself but blasted it ten yards over the bar.
The let-off seemed to inspire Blackpool for a while with substitute Ian Evatt clipping the outside of the post with a ten-yard shot and Shaun Barker going narrowly wide with a header.
Forest made the result safe in the 72nd minute with another fluid move which saw Lester cut in from the right. His shot skidded across the goalline leaving Grant Holt a simple tap-in.
