Nottingham Forest and Stoke City drew a mid-table clash 0-0, much to the frustration of Forest boss Joe Kinnear.
Gareth Williams created a good early chance for Gareth Taylor with an accurate header but the Forest striker shot inches wide.
Forest's Marlon King then drove a 20-yard shot towards goal but it cleared the crossbar and failed to trouble Stoke keeper Neil Cutler.
There were 25 minutes on the clock before the visitors threatened. Darel Russell chipped a ball through to Kris Commons and he tried a 12-yard volley that drifted wide.
Minutes later Stoke's Carl Asaba side-footed the ball to the towering figure of Gifton Noel-Williams and his eight-yard shot forced Paul Gerrard into a fine save.
In the 43rd minute loanee Andy Impey's shot beat Neil Cutler in the Potters goal but Gerry Taggart was able to clear the ball away from danger.
Two minutes after the break Taylor set up King whose close-range volley forced Cutler to make a spectacular reaction save.
With both teams confident of first division survival and neither in a position to push for the play-offs it made for an uneventful game of football.
Forest's away fixture at Stoke ended in defeat and the visitors almost secured a double against their near-neighbours with eight minutest to go when Taggart missed from close range.
At the death Carl Asaba's shot from a tight angle rattled the side netting.
