West Ham United earned a 2-0 win away at Nottingham Forest with striker Marlon Harewood scoring the opener on his return to the City Ground.
It took Harewood only six minutes to score against his old club when prodding home from close range after Jermain Defoe flicked on Matthew Etherington's left-wing cross.
Despite conceding the early goal it was Forest that took the game to West Ham and had the majority of the possession and created chances, but an alert David James denied Forest.
With five minutes to go in the first half Marlon King showed some frustration with a 35-yard shot that just missed the target.
Some solid defending from West Ham saw them going into the half-time interval one goal to the good.
Fifteen minutes into the second half Forest were awarded a free kick 30 yards out. Reid struck a right-footed shot but only managed to hit the side netting.
West Ham's David Connolly weaved through Forest's defence and let go with a powerful shot from the edge of the Forest box, this needed an outstretched Darren Ward to tip the ball over for a corner.
As the game carried on it was more likely that West Ham would double their lead rather than Forest secure an equaliser, and double the lead they did.
Defoe scored with six minutes to go when he received a long ball deep on the right, before side stepping Michael Dawson and striking the ball home from 10 yards out.
It was Defoe again in the 90th minute whose shot needed to be cleared from the Forest goalmouth to save Forest's blushes.
